How to Ride

Riding the Bus is as easy as 1... 2... 3......

  1. Questions
  • If you have questions, call "The Bus" at 503-861-7433, toll free 866-811-1001 or TDD 800-735-2900. We can answer your questions about the routes, when they pass the point you are interested in and what the fare(s) will be.
  1. Fares
  • Have your cash fares, tickets or passes ready when you board "The Bus".
  • The drivers do not carry change, so please have exact change ready to pay fares, to purchase tickets books or monthly passes.
  • Ticket books and passes may be purchased with cash, charge/ATM cards or business checks at the Astoria Transit Center (900 Marine Dr. Astoria).
  • Monthly passes are valid for the month they are purchased for, not thirty (30) days from the purchase date.
  1. Getting on and off "The Bus" safely
  • Arrive at your stop a few minutes early.
  • If your are attempting to flag a bus, make sure that you are standing someplace that the driver can stop safely.
  • Signal "The Bus" (waving, flashlight) that you want to ride the bus.
  • Give the driver plenty of warning before you departure point by pulling the overhead cord a block ahead of your planned stop.
  • Please do not cross in front of the bus, wait until the bus has pulled away and then cross at a designated crosswalk.
  1. Please be patient
  • Due to weather, traffic, construction, etc. schedules times may vary. Your patience is appreciated.
  1. Animals on "The Bus"
  • "Service Animals" as defined in Code of Federal Regulation 28 CFR parts 35 and 36 are always welcome on The Bus.
  • Pets in carriers will be allowed on SETD fixed route buses and ADA Paratransit buses. To protect the safety of the animal and the safety of the riders, the following guidelines will be followed when boarding with a pet.
    • A pet carrier can be no larger than 24 inches long x 18 inches wide x 20 inches high.
    • Pets must be in a leak and escape proof carrier or container that is in fair condition with a hard plastic bottom.
    • Cardboard boxes, plastic bags, purses and backpacks will not be considered a container or carrier for a pet.
    • Riders must keep carrier closed at all times while on the bus.
    • Riders must be able to load and unload their pet carrier on the bus un-assisted. Drivers will not assist the rider or use the lift for loading pets.
    • SETD bus drivers will use their discretion to remove a disruptive or out of control pet.
    • Riders will be responsible for any damage or soiling caused by their pet.
    • Carriers will remain on a riders lap or at their feet at all times and will not take up a seat, nor can they block the aisles or doorways.
  1. Accessibility
  • All buses are equipped with either a ramp or a lift to allow wheelchair access.
  • Passengers with other mobility limitations or are unable to navigate the steps may request to use the ramp or lift.
  • Our vehicles will transport wheelchairs that fit the "common wheelchair" dimensions as described by the ADA - Section 37.3 of the DOT's regulations implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) (49 CFR Parts 27, 37, and 38). A "common wheelchair" is defined as a mobility aid belonging to any class of three or four-wheeled devices, usable indoors, designed for and used by individuals with mobility impairments, whether operated manually or powered. A "common wheelchair" does not exceed 30 inches in width and 48 inches in length measured two inches above the ground, and does not weigh more than 600 pounds when occupied.

  • Children 10 (ten) and older may ride by themselves and are responsible for themselves prior to getting on and after getting off the bus.

  • The Bus reserves the right to refuse service because of the number of, size, weight or volume of carry-on items.
